Chandni has been awarded the highly competitive Neural Engineering Training Program (NETP) T32. The NETP enhances the graduate school experience of trainees with a wide variety of activities (seminars, journal clubs, an annual symposium, social events, and workshops) focused on neural engineering. We are very excited to welcome Chandni Rana as a graduate student in the Mattis lab! Chandni graduated from the University of Florida with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and gained additional experience as a lab technician at NYU. She is a student in the Neuroscience Graduate Program (NGP) at the University of Michigan.

We are thrilled to welcome Krystal M. Santiago-Colón as the lab's first official graduate student! Krystal graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, Cayey Campus with a B.S. in Biology in 2022. She is a student in the Program in Biomedical Sciences (PIBS) and the Department of Pharmacology. Krystal will be jointly mentored by Dr. Lori Isom, Chair of the Department of Pharmacology.

Today our new automated Nikon fluorescent microscope was installed! We'll be using this alongside a MBF Biosciences software for stereology. So excited to start taking pictures on this microscope!

We are very excited to welcome Limei to the Mattis lab as our first postdoc! Limei previously completed a postdoc in Dr. Bing Ye's lab at the University of Michigan, where she investigated the mechanism of the high temporal resolution of sensory neurons in drosophila larvae.

We were thrilled to learn that the Mattis lab's first paper has been accepted for publication in STAR Protocols! In this paper, we detail a protocol for the use of optogenetics or chemogenetics to assess the neuronal circuits contributing to seizure initiation, with a focus on hyperthermia-induced seizures. Congratulations to first author Julia Kravchenko!

He has multiple research experiences, ranging from designing and developing a virtual reality application, to writing and testing commands for a spider robot, to using Machine Learning to identify tinnitus in guinea pigs.
